Dry Needling

Trigger points are knotted & tender areas that develop in muscles when they are overused or injured. The muscles don't get adequate blood supply and may become acidic. They are highly sensitive and can be painful when touched. It can also be a cause of referred pain.

Dry needling is when a thin, sharp needle is inserted through the skin to reach underlying trigger points. This draws nutrient and oxygen-rich blood into the area to flush out toxins and release tension. The prick sensation can also fire nerve signals to the brain to release endorphins (the body's pain medication and feel-good hormone). The needle may be moved to stimulate a local twitch response or muscle spasm. This reaction can be a good sign that the muscle is responding well to treatment.

Kinesio Taping

Kinesiology tape - also known as "K tape" or elastic tape - may provide support, reduce pain and swelling, treat injuries and improve performance. The tape does not limit range of motion in any way. It is an elastic tape so when it is strategically applied to your body, it can stimulate or inhibit certain nerve pathways to either activate or relax the underlying muscles.

This change in pressure also enhances the flow of lymphatic fluid. When the area is decompressed, pain receptors send new signals to the brain, and tension in trigger points decrease. K-tape might help improve circulation, reduce swelling, support weakened joints, re-educate tight muscles to relax, and stretched muscles to contract. It can also assist in correcting posture, and reduce the appearance of bruises and scars.

Joint Health

Contrary to popular belief, chiropractors do NOT only treat back and neck pain. Chiropractors are trained to treat many conditions including:

  • Headaches

  • TMJ (Jaw) conditions

  • Shoulder pain and stiffness

  • Tennis/golfers elbow

  • Hand and wrist issues

  • Numbness, tingling and weakness

  • Hip pain

  • Knee injuries

  • Foot and ankle sprains

  • Swelling

  • Stiffness

  • Posture

Muscle Release

When joints become restricted/sore due to injury, sustained postures or repetitive movements, the surrounding muscles tighten up. This is how our bodies try to guard and protect the inflamed joints. It makes us aware that something is wrong and we should rest or get treatment.Releasing muscle tension is therefore very important when treating underlying joint pain. This is to ensure that the muscles do not pull the joint back into a restricted state after the joint health is restored. Releasing muscle tension ensures long term pain relief and mobility

Spinal Manipulative Therapy

Spinal manipulation is commonly referred to as "clicking, popping, aligning or adjusting" the spine. Before performing any spinal manipulative techniques, a chiropractor will do a thorough examination/assessment of the joints and muscles of the back and neck. This is to identify where restricted segments are, and where the muscles have become too tight or too weak. These could be the reason for why you experience pain, nerve irritation, numbness, stiffness, weakness and discomfort.

Chiropractors use highly specialized manipulative techniques (adjustments), that are performed by hand. They consist of high-velocity, low-amplitude, directional thrusts applied to specific parts of the vertebrae.

Adjustments are safe and non-invasive. Some people experience immediate relief as the joint motion is restored and freed from irritation. Sometimes, a few sessions are required to correct the problem while the body learns to adapt to the changes made.

Dry Cupping

Dry cupping is an alternative therapy that involves suctioning the skin with glass, plastic, or silicon cups. No cuts are made and no bleeding occurs. This suction is thought to improve the flow of energy in the body and facilitate healing. It draws blood to the area to improve circulation, boost immune function, remove toxins, and reduce pain.

This may relieve muscle tension and promote cell repair. It may also help with formation of connective tissue, and create new blood vessels in the tissue. Some benefits include changing the skin's bio-mechanical properties, increasing pain thresholds, improving local anaerobic metabolism, reducing inflammation, boosting cellular immunity, altering pain signal processing and increasing the flow of lymph. It may cause temporary skin bruising that fades within a few days.

Flexion-Distraction

Flexion-distraction is a gentle, non-surgical chiropractic therapy using a special segmented table to decompress and stretch the spine. A chiropractor uses controlled, rhythmic movements on the moving table, gently releasing pressure between vertebrae (distraction) and flexing it.

Benefits of flexion-distraction:

  • Reduces pressure on spinal nerves and discs.

  • Decreases symptoms of herniated or bulging discs.

  • Relieves pain from sciatica, back pain, neck pain, and headaches.

  • Increases spinal mobility and range of motion.

  • Provides a non-surgical alternative for spinal pain.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy, a woman's body undergoes many hormonal and physical changes. The female body needs to adapt to make space for a growing fetus and prepare for labour. These bio-mechanical changes affect weight bearing, sleep posture, mobility, flexibility and pain. Chiropractic care can be a valuable asset during pregnancy.Chiropractic treatment for pregnancy includes:

  • Low back pain

  • Sciatica

  • Pelvic pain

  • Numbness and tingling

  • Swelling

  • Mobility

  • Sleep Posture and comfort

  • Weight bearing

  • Headaches

  • Stiffness

  • Preparation for birth
